Protests in Thailand 2013-2014

On November 1, 2013, the Thai House of Representatives, dominated by the Pheu Thai Party, passed a bill that if passed by the Senate would grant amnesty to former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra. Thaksin Shinawatra was Prime Minister of Thailand between 2001 and 2006, when he was removed from office during a military coup.  Following his removal from office, Shinawatra went into exile in Cambodia while the Supreme Court of Thailand found him guilty of abuse of power and threatened further criminal charges upon his return that would result in at least two years imprisonment.  The bill presented to the Senate would clear all these charges.  On November 4, 2013, peaceful demonstrations began in the nationís capital Bangkok.  Despite the billís failing in the Senate on November 11, the protests continued and turned more violent.  The protestors most recently have called for the resignation of the current Prime Minister, Yingluck Shinawatra, sister of the former prime minister in exile.  Below is the compilation of this Special Report from Tea Talk Asia.
