Kelly Dineen, RN, JD, PhD: Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Award for Teaching Achievement Honoree

As read by Creighton Provost Mardell Wilson, EdD, at the School of Law 2021 Conferral of Doctoral Hoods and Commencement Ceremony on May 13.

Since 1970, Creighton students have selected a faculty member to honor at Commencement – a professor who exemplifies true excellence in teaching.

The recipient of the Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Award for Teaching Achievement is someone who inspires students, and who represents the University’s highest standards.

Today we honor Associate Professor of Law Kelly Dineen, director of the health law program in the School of Law. Dr. Dineen teaches current topics in public health law, health law and policy, bioethics, and torts. She has a secondary appointment as a professor of medical humanities at Creighton’s School of Medicine. Dr. Dineen holds a PhD in health care ethics from Saint Louis University, as well as a JD, with a concentration in health care law. She also has a background in nursing, including caring for people with chronic persistent pain and movement disorders.

In nominating her for this award, her students said Dr. Dineen’s expertise in health law is unmatched. She is regularly called upon by local, national, and even international organizations to speak on issues of health law, ethics, and public health. Her unique background in nursing and law gives her fresh perspective and an impressive skill set.

Students say most who take one of her classes sign up for more health law classes because she sparks an interest in an area of law they didn’t even know existed. She is not afraid to adapt her classes when unique opportunities arise, such as during this global pandemic.

Professor Dineen is uniquely available to her students, allowing them to contact her at any time. She notices when her students aren’t their best and will go out of her way to reach out and help in any way she can.

Please join me in congratulating Dr. Kelly Dineen, this year’s recipient of the Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Award for Teaching Achievement.
