Peripartum Cardiomyopathy: An Update
The 20th Annual Vincent Runco, Jr, MD Visiting Scholar Program will feature Dr. Uri Elkayam, a professor of Medicine and Obstetrics and Gynecology and director of maternal cardiology at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. The lecture will focus on Peripartum Cardiomyopathy including, diagnosis and prognosis of PPCM, management strategies, new pathophysiological mechanisms, and the rational for the REBIRTH study.

Presented by Uri Elkayam, MD
Dr. Uri Elkayam is a professor of Medicine and Obstetrics and Gynecology and director of maternal cardiology at the university of Southern California in Los Angeles. His previous positions included chief of cardiology USC university hospital and director of heart failure program. He is a past member of the executive council of the Heart Failure Society of America and the president of the Foundation for Heart Failure Education.
Dr. Elkayam research and clinical interests are congestive heart failure, heart disease and pregnancy, valvular heart disease, cardiomyopathies, and cardiovascular pharmacology. He has been involved in more than 100 self-initiated, NIH and industry funded research projects and has served in a leading position in numerous national and international multi-center studies. He is an associate editor of the journal JACC Advances and on the editorial board of JACC heart failure.
Dr. Elkayam is the author or co-author of over 250 publications and over 90 book chapters. He is the editor of 4 editions of the textbook Cardiac Problems in Pregnancy, the founder and director of the biennial International Congress on Cardiac Problems in Pregnancy, the annual Cardio Obstetrics symposium and the annual Los Angeles Heart Failure symposium. Dr. Elkayam is the recipient of the 2021 distinguished American College of Cardiology Bernadine Healy Leadership in Women’s Cardiovascular Disease Award.
