This presentation will focus on the challenges facing individuals who want to publish in professional and research journals today. The session will provide an overview of key criteria that can be used to assist in the decision-making process of where to submit a manuscript. Additional information will be provided on newer publishing models including open access and hybrid options, and suggestions for avoiding predatory publishers.
Attendees will be able to:
- Identify two or more key elements an author needs to consider before deciding where to publish
- Describe the role impact factors and prestigious journal titles can play in influencing the decision where to submit a manuscript
- Compare key pros and cons of open access publishing
- List at least two warning signs of a potential predatory publisher
