
OSHA and Infection Control for Your Dental Office
Description
At Creighton University, we offer the gold standard in continuing education programs for dentists, dental hygienists and dental assistants. Creighton is an ADA CERP recognized provider, which means you’ll earn high-quality continuing dental education credits.
This 3.5 hour lectured course provides the annual training required for all health care workers by the OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Standards. Dental professionals and health care workers will learn the etiology and epidemiology of bloodborne pathogens, exposure control plans, effective barrier techniques and sepsis. They will receive the latest updates on instrument processing, engineering work practices and handpiece sterilization dental unit water line issues.

Course Objectives
- Describe OSHA’s mission, scope, jurisdiction, and inspection practices as it relates to dental practices
- Identify basic employee rights and employer responsibilities under OSHA rules
- Comprehend OSHA record keeping requirements, including reporting and conditional exemption
- Describe basic OSHA requirements under the BBP standard
- Define what occupational exposure is, an exposure incident, and steps to be followed after an exposure incident
- Describe key elements and requirements of the OSHA Hazard Communication Standard
- Identify respiratory protection rules and requirements, as they relate to common COVID-19 protection practices and Personal Protective Equipment
