Biography

Dr. Millard has been involved in mental health and higher education for over 30 years.  Her educational background includes a Master’s Degree in Psychology from Texas Christian University and a Ph.D. in Leadership Studies from the University of Nebraska – Lincoln.  Michele is a Licensed Mental Health Practitioner and a Certified Professional Counselor within the state of Nebraska and has provided individual and group therapy, both in the community and at Creighton University where she began her affiliation in 1988 as a counselor in the Counseling Center.  She created the Peer Education program and taught “Introduction to Peer Education” which focused on holistic health education.  She worked with the Cardoner grant for several years, providing faculty, staff and students with opportunities to explore their vocation.  Michele also taught Introduction to Psychology and Abnormal Psychology within the Psychology Department.  Transitioning to the School of Medicine 7 years ago, she is currently an Academic Success Consultant, working with M1-M4 students on academic issues.  Michele created the Vital Signs Mentoring Program to help facilitate mentoring relationships between students and faculty.  She created and facilitates a course entitled “Physician Lifestyle Management” for M1s-M3s to help develop personal and professional development in medical students.  In addition, Michele has provided workshops and consulting within the university and community on issues such as conflict resolution, personal growth and development, stress management, emotional intelligence, and leadership development.  She is a pastor and elder within her church and is active with teaching and music ministry.
