Biography
The studies in Dr. Hwang’s laboratory focus on the role of neuroinflammation, epigenetic regulation, microRNAs and protein regulation and degradation such as ubiquitination and autophagy underlying the pathophysiology of neurological disorders and diseases such as stroke, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, Huntington’s disease. Her lab uses cell culture models and animal models of these diseases. The ultimate goal of her research is to identify potential therapeutic targets for these diseases.
In addition, in collaboration with Dr. Melinda Burnett, MD (Neurology, Creighton University School of Medicine), translational research on biomarkers in human patients with Parkinson’s disease is being pursued.
