Biography

Dr. Kenneth Hermsen is a graduate of the University of Nebraska where he received a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry in 1971. He entered the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Dentistry in the fall of the same year graduating with his DDS Degree in 1975. Following 2 years in private general practice he returned to the University where he earned an M.S. Degree and Certificate in Endodontics in 1980. He joined the Creighton University School of Dentistry Faculty in the Department of Endodontics in March, 1977. He taught full-time, attaining the rank of Associate Professor and maintained a part-time private endodontic practice for 13 years. He retired from teaching in 1990 to devote full-time to his endodontic practice and continued to practice for 16 years. In 2006, he retired from practice and returned to Creighton’s Department of Endodontics, attaining the rank of Professor. Dr. Hermsen is a member and past president of the Omaha District Dental Society, a member, past Trustee and President of the Nebraska Dental Association, a member of the American Dental Association and past Delegate to the ADA’s House of Delegates, a member and past president of the Nebraska Association of Endodontists, a member of the American Association of Endodontists and a Fellow of the American College of Dentists. In addition to his interest in Endodontics, he is actively engaged in Forensic Dentistry on the local and Federal level. He currently serves as the State Team Leader of the Nebraska Forensic Dental Identification Team and as forensic dental officer for the NDMS Region 7 Disaster Mortuary Operational Response Team (DMORT) where he assisted in the identification of the victims following the attack on the World Trade Center in 2001 and the victims of Hurricane Katrina in 2005. He serves as chair of the Omaha Metro Medical Response System’s Mass Fatality Response Subcommittee and served as forensic dental consultant to the Douglas and Sarpy County Coroner’s Offices and the State of Nebraska. He is a member of the American Society of Forensic Odontology where he served on their Board of Governors and a Fellow of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences. Dr. Hermsen and his wife, Linda, have been married for 46 years. They have two sons and four grandchildren.
