Dr. Schoening joined the faculty at Creighton University College of Nursing in 2003. She is a member of both the Undergraduate and Graduate Faculty, specializing in obstetrics. Her primary research interests include new faculty transition, the scholarship of teaching and learning, and mental health during pregnancy and the postpartum period,. In addition to her teaching responsibilities, Dr. Schoening serves as Assistant Dean for Faculty Development and Dedicated Education Unit Project Director for the College. She serves on the Editorial Board for the journal Nurse Educator. She is an active member and past Chair of the Nebraska Section of the Association of Women's Health, Obstetric, and Neonatal Nurses (AHWONN).
