Two successful years.

Centered on Creighton University's commitment to advance global learning, in the last two years the Creighton Global Initiative (CGI) has created resources that offer opportunities for faculty, staff and students to embrace global perspectives. Through philanthropic support, it has animated a global focus for the Creighton University community, living out our mission to stimulate critical and creative thinking and provide ethical perspectives for dealing with an increasingly complex world.

CGI has built on Creighton University's track record in global outreach and education, building on existing academic and institutional efforts and creatively envisioning and implementing new ones.  In the last two years the CGI has helped Creighton go further out in the world through expansion or creation of 16 student mobility programs, including seven Faculty-Led Programs Away (FLPA), four co-curricular immersion programs, four research programs and two travel scholarship funds.  CGI has also brought more of the world to Creighton through 18 "glocalization" programs. We have become more conversant on how global and local realities are intricately linked. Further, five programs have supported the development of faculty and staff ability to facilitate global learning and five have sought to deepen our partnerships around the world.  More than 1,000 students and 400 faculty and staff have participated in these programs so far. Many programs are ongoing.

It's Time to go Deeper.

In the era of accelerated globalization, the CGI projects are only one part of how Creighton University contributes to the Society of Jesus' global commitment that emphasizes the promotion of justice and the universal good as part of the service of faith.  Thus, we seek to explore new ways to accompany the poor and excluded, promote education, and support a shift from what Pope Francis called "a globalization of indifference" to a globalization of siblinghood.   Thus, Creighton University has embraced the distinctive Jesuit focus on global learning that takes place not only "in" the world, but also "for" it, deepening our awareness of humanity as a single species sharing the same history and the same planet.

CGI projects are intended to help learners imagine different futures and the roles they can play in creating a just and sustainable world. It is time now to move from optional opportunities to programs that weave global learning more tightly into our institutional fabric.  How might we integrate global learning more formally into our curricula for major and minor studies? How might we assess the value of global learning? How might we contribute to the body of evidence that helps solve intractable global problems? How might we bring more of the world to Creighton, and take Creighton farther into the world?
