Language and culture are closely connected. Co-curricular activities facilitate the development of language skills in a real cultural context. Besides helping students learn the U.S. and the local culture, the IELI co-curricular activities are an integral part of the writing curriculum. Full-time students are required to attend all co-curricular activities.
Co-curricular activities typically include visits to many area attractions, including Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo; the Living History Farm in Iowa; the Strategic Air Command at Offutt Air Force Base; Lincoln, the capital of the state of Nebraska. Students also attend campus lectures, performing arts series, and the annual Omaha rodeo or games featuring Creighton's Division I teams.
