Student Callers Take to Phones, Promote Creighton Fund

“This has to be the greatest job,” said Shane Beasley, when asked about his position as student supervisor for the Creighton Fund Phonathon. “Who wouldn’t want to talk on the phone with others who love Creighton and want to support Creighton students and faculty? It’s an opportunity to share in our Bluejay pride.”
Beasley, a senior accounting major in the College of Business, has worked on the Phonathon team all four years he has been at Creighton. He is one of 17 returning student callers who were part of last year’s Phonathon. They were joined by 27 new callers who completed orientation and software training and were ready to make calls for the first time. By mid-December, the team had raised $544,860 in pledges toward a goal of $1.2 million for this fiscal year.
Phonathon coordinator Amy Morrison said that dollars raised for the Creighton Fund sustain the University and have an immediate impact on the people, programs and departments at the heart of the Creighton experience.
“The Creighton Fund helps ensure that our students receive a high-quality education, learn from faculty members who are experts in their fields and have the extracurricular and service opportunities that make a Creighton education unique, valuable and memorable. Our generous alumni and parents understand well the value of their gifts,” Morrison said.

An outgoing personality and a genuine desire to help the University are traits of successful Phonathon team members, and Morrison says there is no shortage of such students at Creighton.

“Our Phonathon callers are the best – always willing to go above and beyond for Creighton. We are winding down our fall effort now and will begin calling again in January. We will be hiring new students to join the great group already assembled and ready to go.”
“I really enjoy being able to contribute to the University in this way,” Beasley added.
