Division faculty are responsible for IDC233, the sophomore medical student course on infectious diseases. The four-week course consists of didactic lectures, laboratories, multi-disciplinary conferences, and small group sessions. ID faculty provide lectures for the School of Medicine including MIC754, Clinical Infectious Diseases, a rotation for senior medical students. Fellows participate in teaching medical students.
All internal medicine residents rotate through the ID Division. The faculty are well known among the residents for their strong didactic sessions. At CHI Health Creighton University Medical Center - Bergan Mercy, the residents and fellows are responsible for the inpatient consultative service. At VA Medical Center, residents and fellows provide inpatient consultative services and are active in the outpatient clinics. Residents participate in the Travel Clinic. At the VA Medical Center, residents also have an opportunity to visit the microbiology lab on inpatient rounds. This is an opportunity to review interesting cases and learn about diagnostic microbiology.
