"My experience at Creighton has been incredibly rewarding, and an experience I will never forget. I feel like I am getting a first class education from one of the best schools in the country."

Our Director

Lieutenant Colonel Mark P. Turner, director of the Office of Military and Veterans Affairs, can relate to the Creighton students he serves. Mark knows what it is like to be in the military and to be a college student at the same time.

Mark is a native of Wichita, Kansas. He entered active duty in 1984 as an ROTC Distinguished Military Graduate from Arizona State University and was commissioned a second Lieutenant of Armor.

His leadership assignments included duty with the 4th Squadron, 7th Cavalry, 3rd Squadron, 5th Cavalry, 1st Squadron, 9th Cavalry, 3rd Battalion, 63rd Armor, 4th Battalion, 69th Armor. His staff assignments included 2nd Squadron, 16th Cavalry, the 16th Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Brigade, 91st Division, United Nations Command/Combined Forces Command, Seventh Army/United States Army-Europe, the University of Southern California and the United States Military Academy.

His military professional education included many command, staff and skill-based schools while his civilian education includes a Bachelor of Science in Business Management from Arizona State University and a Master of Science in Education with an emphasis in Instructional Technology from the University of Southern California.

Mark’s last assignment in the Army was Professor of Military Science and Chair of the Department of Military Science at Creighton University. In 2009, he retired from the Army after 26 years and began his service at Creighton in the College of Arts and Sciences as an assistant dean. In 2014, he created the Office of Military and Veterans Affairs and was also named the Director of Creighton’s Business Office.

Our Program Coordinator

Jennifer Austin, program coordinator in the Office of Military and Veterans Affairs, knows first-hand what it is like to be a Creighton University student. The native of Harlan, in southwest Iowa, attended Creighton before going on to pursue real estate licenses in both Iowa and Nebraska.

When she was looking for a career that allowed her more time with her family, Jenni was thrilled to discover her alma mater had an opening. She was hired initially as an administrative assistant, providing support to the president of the University, and began her current position in June 2014.

Jenni is the go-to person in the office, working with veterans, active duty personnel and their spouses and dependents to coordinate educational benefits from the VA. She is there to answer questions, provide support, and to make sure students receive the military benefits they are entitled to in a timely manner.

While much has changed at Creighton since Jenni was a student, one thing has stayed the same: People at Creighton care about student success. And now Jenni is part of ensuring that success for military students.
