Creighton University School of Medicine has named Christian W. Cox, MD, associate professor and chair of the Department of Radiology Omaha campus effective July 1.
“Creighton has always held a special place in my heart since completing my residency here in 2007,” said Cox. “My family and I feel truly blessed getting a chance to return to Omaha and I’m excited to join the Creighton staff in providing excellent Catholic health care and medical education.”
Most recently Cox served as associate professor of radiology at Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science, and as a consultant for the division of thoracic radiology, Department of Radiology, Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. In addition, he served as a major in the U.S. Army, stationed at Madigan Army Medical Center in Fort Lewis, Washington, and Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu.
He earned his medical degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine and completed his internship in internal medicine at Creighton, his residency in diagnostic radiology at Creighton, where he served as chief resident, and his cardiothoracic fellowship at National Jewish Health in Denver.
Cox loves teaching and has earned teaching awards everywhere he has worked, including Excellence in Education Awards for outstanding radiology resident teacher and Golden Apple Awards while in residency at Creighton. His work in education led to building a radiology education lab and establishing an integrated radiology applications training program at the Mayo Clinic.
As a thoracic radiologist, his clinical practice and research have focused primarily on imaging of chronic diffuse lung disease.
Cox enjoys reading about theology, traveling with his wife, playing the game Axis & Allies with his 12-year-old son, and watching his 16-year-old daughter play soccer and his 18-year-old daughter play marimba.
