For the second year in a row, Associate Professor of Accounting, Maggie Knight, BSBA’01, DBA’18, CPA, director of Master of Accounting (MAC) program at the Heider College of Business, and Creighton University both make the BYU Accounting Rankings for 2022.  Knight places 8th internationally – up two from last year’s 10th spot – in the prestigious rankings.  Creighton University continues to hold steady, also coming in at 8th.

Previous story:

Maggie Knight, BSBA’01, DBA’18, CPA, CGMA, associate professor of accounting and director of the Master of Accounting (MAC) program, has increasingly focused her research on accounting education in recent years.

Quite successfully, too.

Having published multiple articles in top-tier journals, Knight has joined the ranks – 10th internationally – of notable accounting researchers whose work is recognized by Brigham Young University Accounting Rankings.

The BYU Accounting Rankings is considered the gold standard in accounting disciplines, covering numerous specialized fields, including accounting education research, Knight’s expertise. The report ranks accounting programs and faculty worldwide on their success in publishing in top-tier, peer-reviewed accounting journals. It is also helpful for accounting researchers to compare their research productivity to their contemporaries, says Knight.

“This latest international recognition confirms what we’ve always known – that our students are learning from some of the best minds in the accounting world.”
— Anthony R. Hendrickson, PhD, dean of the Heider College of Business.

The last year has been a productive one for Knight. In 2021, three of her papers were published in the A-level journal, Issues in Accounting Education:

  • “Fighting Fire with Fire: Using Excel Macros to Combat Academic Dishonesty in Excel Project,” co-authored with fellow Heider College of Business professor, Don Lux, DBA, assistant professor of practice in accounting;
  • “A Word of Caution to Students: Public Accountant Perceptions of Alternative Work Arrangements,” co-authored with HCB colleague, Regina Taylor, PhD, associate professor of management; and
  • “Integrating Professionally Oriented Faculty: Views of Professionally Oriented Faculty, Tenure-Track Faculty and Administrations.”

This year, she published “US Research-focused Nontraditional Doctoral Accounting Programs: A Status Update” in the Journal of Accounting Education.

Creighton joined Knight in the BYU Accounting Rankings, coming in at eighth internationally. It is the first year the University was recognized in the benchmark list.

“We are very proud of our nationally-recognized accounting program and its stellar faculty,” says Anthony R. Hendrickson, PhD, dean of the Heider College of Business. “This latest international recognition confirms what we’ve always known – that our students are learning from some of the best minds in the accounting world.”
