James S. Jansen, JD, is general counsel at Creighton University. In this position since 2011, Jansen advises and guides the Board of Trustees, the president, vice presidents, deans and administrators in legal matters impacting the University.
He previously served in several Omaha-based law firms, including McGrath North Mullin & Kratz, PC LLO; Stave, Coffey, Swenson, Jansen & Schatz; and Naviaux, Kinney, Jansen & Dosek. He also served as the Douglas County (Omaha) attorney, a position he was elected to four times (1990, 1994, 1998 and 2002). From 1974 to 1978, he served as deputy county attorney for Douglas County.
Jansen is admitted to the bar in Nebraska. He has been AV rated by Martindale-Hubbell continuously since 1980 (highest available peer-review rating for legal ability and ethics). He holds memberships in the American Bar Association, Nebraska State Bar Association, Omaha Bar Association, and has been active in the Project Harmony Child Protection Center and the Domestic Violence Coordinating Council of Greater Omaha.
Jansen earned his Bachelor of Science in education from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln in 1970, and his Juris Doctorate from the Creighton University School of Law in 1973.
