On Wednesday, I announced that Dr. Tanya Winegard, vice provost for Student Life, would be hosting a listening session to provide Creighton students an opportunity to contribute to the conversation regarding sexual and relationship misconduct at Creighton. This morning, I informed our student body that the student session is scheduled for Monday evening.
To be clear, sexual and relationship misconduct is a serious offense anywhere, anytime, and particularly so at a Catholic, Jesuit institution of higher learning.
Let me also take a moment to apprise you that I also have been working to create the new committee that will soon begin reviewing our policies that govern reporting, and other important issues related to misconduct investigations. Additional information regarding membership and work to be performed by the committee will be available early next week.
In addition to having difficult, but very important, conversations regarding the issues surrounding sexual misconduct, we also should take time to remember recent alumnus Shane Broderick, who passed away a few days ago, and the current Creighton students who will be traveling to Dubuque, Iowa, this weekend to attend his funeral service.
For so many reasons, this is a time to stand together as a community.
