Today, and as previously announced, the USA Midwest Province of the Society of Jesus released a list of names of Jesuits with credible allegations of sexual abuse of minors since 1955. Other provinces in the U.S. also released similar information over the past few weeks.
While several individuals are listed as having been assigned to Creighton at some point, none is alleged to have committed an abusive act while at the University.
In a letter to leaders of apostolates announcing the release of the list, Provincial Brian Paulson, SJ, stated: “It is undeniable that sometimes in previous decades, some Jesuits with allegations against them were unfortunately moved and assigned to different apostolates after an allegation was received. I assure you that, where this might have occurred in the past, it does not happen now and will not happen in the future.”
It is important for Fr. Paulson to release this information in order to demonstrate his continuing commitment to accountability and transparency, as well as his focus on the victims. We continue to pray for individuals who were abused by clergy they confided in and trusted and hope that this disclosure helps to bring them healing and hope.
