Nov. 7, 2019
As we usher in the month of November, I have important information to share regarding our upcoming Campus Engagement Forums on Nov. 19, as well as some good news around our SimplyWell Leadership Challenge and a reminder about Winter Term.
First, I invite and encourage you to attend one of the Campus Engagement Forums on Nov. 19. These will be highly interactive sessions in which we will discuss the changing national landscape in American higher education, and how Creighton University can best respond to these opportunities and challenges.
We are offering three sessions to accommodate diverse and busy schedules. The session times and locations are as follows. Register for one of the sessions.
• 9:30-10:45 a.m., V.J. and Angela Skutt Student Center, Mutual of Omaha Ballroom
• 12:30-1:45 p.m., Mike and Josie Harper Center, fourth-floor Ahmanson Ballroom
• 3:30-4:45 p.m., Mike and Josie Harper Center, fourth-floor Ahmanson Ballroom
Again, these forums are intended to be primarily participatory in nature. Please be prepared to engage the following questions in small-group table discussions:
Question 1: In regard to demographic shifts projecting both a precipitous decrease in high school graduates and an abundance of interests and needs of the “lifelong learner,” how is your department/unit uniquely positioned to respond to changing realities in American higher education?
Question 2: With current goals of Leading with the Liberal Arts; our expansion in Phoenix; interprofessional education in the health sciences; corporate partnerships; and commitments to mission, diversity and inclusion, and global engagement; how do elements of our current Strategic Plan, “Creighton 150: Lighting the Way,” position the University for the future?
Question 3: Through discernment, adaptation, and innovation, how might Creighton respond more quickly to meet the evolving needs of students/learners in ways that maintain and strengthen our expressions of mission, academic quality, and institutional leadership?
As mentioned in previous messages, background materials to help you reflect on these questions are available on the Strategic Planning website. These sessions will also be available to watch online, but I recommend attending in person, if possible.
As part of our wellness initiatives, Creighton participates in the SimplyWell Program. The program is an important employee resource that reflects our Jesuit charism of cura personalis, or care of the whole person.
I am pleased to note that we had an 80% participation rate in the SimplyWell Leadership Challenge this year among those enrolled in our medical plan. Congratulations to all, and I encourage you to continue to take advantage of our various wellness offerings.
Finally, I would like to remind you that Creighton University will offer a Winter Term, Dec. 16 through Jan. 13. This is a wonderful way for students to accelerate their degree program, get ahead to study abroad, work toward a second major, and explore other interests. Registration opens today, Nov. 7. Please encourage students to learn more and take advantage of this opportunity.
Thank you for all that you do for Creighton. I look forward to seeing you at the Campus Engagement Forums on Nov. 19.
