April 28, 2017: Residence Hall Incident
In accordance with Creighton University’s policies opposing violent, harassing, or discriminatory speech, the University is investigating an on-campus incident that occurred in the early morning hours of Tuesday, April 25, in which a student reported finding a note containing hateful and discriminatory language taped to a residence hall door.
The content of the note violates Creighton’s policy on student, staff, and faculty conduct and, more crucially, is not at all representative of the environment we desire as a University. The incident is a breach of the Jesuit values we all share as the Creighton community, values which bind us all in the common mission of ensuring Creighton is a safe, respectful, inclusive place for learning, for work, and for living as a community. Any form of discrimination or discriminatory harassment violates this principle and will not be tolerated by the University.
The Office of Equity and Inclusion (OEI) began investigating this incident and working with the student immediately after it was reported. Anyone who has information regarding the situation is encouraged to contact OEI.
