Presidential message

As you may know, a guilty verdict was reached today in the case against former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin.

In processing this information, I would like to make the campus community aware of University resources that are available through the Office of Institutional Diversity and Inclusion, and ask that you continue to watch for additional campus programming.

While the jury’s decision marks a significant milestone in this particular case, we should not – and cannot – view this verdict as a conclusion to critically important discussions, reflections, and conversations that need to occur around race and systemic racism in this country.

The inalienable worth of each individual and appreciation of ethnic and cultural diversity are core values at Creighton University and are inscribed in our mission statement. We are all created equal in the eyes of a loving God.

Let this be a moment that moves us forward – in loving and committed action – to create a more just world for all.

Sincerely,
Rev. Daniel S. Hendrickson, SJ, PhD
