July 29, 2016: New Dental Facility to Break Ground
I am very pleased to announce that efforts to provide the Creighton University School of Dentistry with a new building to train its students, better serve the Omaha community, and respond to the growing needs of the dental profession nationally are moving forward.
The Creighton Board of Trustees recently approved plans to construct a new facility for the dental school on University-owned property located on Cuming Street between 21st and 22nd streets. A groundbreaking ceremony will occur in mid-September, but preliminary site work will begin soon, and fundraising for the project continues in coordination with University Relations.
School of Dentistry Dean Mark Latta often emphasizes that our dental program graduates the best-prepared, practice-ready dentists in the nation, and Trustees and I agree that the school needs a larger, modern building in order to provide our students with improved learning opportunities. In addition, members of the local community who receive dental services from our students will also benefit from a state-of-the-art clinic.
As I continue to work with the Board and others regarding a campus master plan, it is exciting to know that we are moving forward with a new academic facility that continues our history of providing the very best education in the tradition of Jesuit higher learning.
