I would like to formally welcome Jan Madsen, our new Executive Vice President, to Creighton. Yesterday was Jan’s first day in the office, and I know she is already deeply engaged in reacclimating to life at the University. Please welcome Jan back to Creighton if you see her on campus.
Also, and if you are able to join us, I have two announcements regarding events in September.
On Sept. 2, we officially mark the 140th anniversary of the University. However, given that this is Sunday of the extended Labor Day weekend – and for many, a time of travel – I would like to invite you to join other members of the Creighton community on Wednesday, Sept. 5, from 1:30-3:30 p.m. at an ice cream and cookie social on the mall near the Skutt Student Center. Look for the blue-and-white balloons, which will mark the table where you can pick up the treats. At Sunday Masses on Sept. 2, we will indeed take time to recognize the history, mission, and many blessings of the University.
Finally, on Tuesday, Sept. 25, I will be providing an update regarding the business of the University, including our ongoing strategic plan implementation, during a Town Hall in the Harper Center’s Hixson-Lied Auditorium from 3:30-4:30 p.m. Additional information regarding registration will be included in a future message, but please hold the time if you are able, including joining me afterward at a special reception in the Harper Center to celebrate the start of the new academic year.
This is an exciting time on campus as we prepare to welcome all students for the fall semester, and I look forward to seeing you in the coming weeks as our summer break comes to a close.
