Presidential message

Earlier today, we learned the sad news of the death of Jeff Smith, PhD, associate professor emeritus and director of school counseling in the Department of Education, who passed away unexpectedly last night.

Dr. Smith, who joined Creighton’s faculty in 1999, was overseeing the full-day orientation for the new counseling graduate students yesterday, when he began feeling a bit unwell. His wife, Lillie, took him to the hospital late in the afternoon, where he later died.

A committed and dedicated faculty member and educator, Dr. Smith was planning to teach the busy summer term and retire at the end of the summer sessions after a career of more than two decades at Creighton.

Our condolences and prayers go out to his wife, Lillie, and members of their family. Let us also pray for Dr. Smith’s colleagues and current and former students at this difficult time. May his memory serve as a source of comfort and inspiration.

In Christ,

Rev. Daniel S. Hendrickson, SJ, PhD
