Sustainable Energy Science (Bachelor of Science)

Other Programs Available

If you’re interested in creating a positive future for our environment, Creighton University’s sustainable energy science program is for you. A Bachelor of Science (BS) in sustainable energy science will engage your mind and your hands while introducing you to the growing energy sector.

At Creighton, you’ll address energy issues from an interdisciplinary perspective and enjoy a nontraditional curriculum. You’ll get to use an atomic force microscope, study weather forecasting, apply physics and math theory to real-world situations and work in a hands-on environment.

Our energy science program is a direct reflection of the University’s Jesuit values—providing both an intellectual and practical education that will make a difference in the world. If you enjoy math, science, engineering, designing and building—and want to make the world more sustainable—consider majoring in energy science at Creighton.

No new majors will be accepted to this program beginning Fall 2019

Sustainable Energy Minor

The sustainable energy minor offers students an introduction to basic energy principles and design methods. Courses are project and case study based.

Jobs in the energy sector have been increasing 26% per year.

Energy science graduates find employment in sustainable design, building systems and renewable energy. Creighton’s energy science program also prepares you for graduate school in engineering.

What You'll Learn

  • Understand the significant energy challenges facing our global society
  • Develop innovative, holistic solutions to energy problems
  • Hone your critical thinking and problem solving skills

Student Organizations

  • Green Jays

The Green Jays explore, enjoy and protect the wild places of the earth. We practice and promote the responsible use of the earth’s ecosystems and resources. We encourage students to become involved in environmental issues and sustainability within the Creighton and greater Omaha area communities.

Creighton’s energy science program helps you find internships, including paid internships in building management systems, information technology and public administration.

Research Opportunities

At Creighton, you’ll have the opportunity for research alongside faculty members as an undergraduate. You could study such areas as thin film technology, nanomaterials and sustainable design.

The program also allows incoming freshmen to jump-start their college education with summer courses and research opportunities in faculty laboratories. Please feel free to contact Program Director Larry Hopp (larryhopp [at] creighton [dot] edu or 402.659.8693) for more information.
