New report shows drought dragging down Midwest economy

Drought and dollar cause key business index to sink

"The downturn in export orders weighed more heavily on the Minnesota economy for July than the drought," said Ernie Goss, report author and director of Creighton University's Economic Forecasting Group. "The global slowdown, combined with the rising value of the dollar, pulled the overall index below growth neutral for the month. I expect state growth to be flat to slightly negative in the next three to six months."

Omaha couple home-brewed beer for wedding reception

Beer has kept an Omaha couple's relationship brewing. Now Mike and Liz Clark have brewed beer to celebrate a milestone in their romance. The couple filled roughly 1,300 bottles with various home brews to serve at their recent wedding reception. Mike, a 35-year-old chemistry teacher at Creighton Prep, met the former Liz Shanahan, a 29-year-old fundraiser for Creighton University, through a mutual friend four years ago.
