Creighton Speech and Debate Team Receives National Placement
The Creighton University Speech and Debate Team brought home a national championship at the 40th Annual National Forensics Association Tournament April 16-17 in Athens, Ohio.
Senior Chris Fowler placed first out of 210 contestants to win the national championship in the tournamentís prose interpretation event. This is the first national championship garnered by the team since 2003.
Other Creighton students who competed included: Matt Cockerill, Annelise Ewing, Danielle Fiumefreddo, , Sarah Giesler, Beth Kampschnieder, Joel Mapes, Westin Miller, Katie Porter, Landon Ross, Nick Tanner and Claire Wolnisty. The team placed 5th in Lincoln Douglas Debate Team Sweepstakes; 5th in the President's II Division for Individual Events; and the Individual Events Team placed 18th out of 76 teams.
Other individual awards included Nick Tanner, sophomore, 6th place in Lincoln Douglas and octofinalist; Westin Miller, freshman, 10th place in Lincoln Douglas and octofinalist and Katie Porter, sophomore, quarterfinalist in Dramatic Duo with Fowler. Fowler was also a quarterfinalist in Dramatic Interpretation.
