On the Bench with Father Shanahan

The Rev. Thomas Shanahan, S.J., has served as chaplain for the Creighton University men’s basketball ball team for close to 10 years. His presence on the bench provides a reminder to students, alumni, staff and visitors of the important role faith plays in all aspects of University life.

As one player puts it, “Having Father there reminds us to not only see the basketball side, but the faith side. It puts it in perspective that we are playing for something bigger than just a win.”

Fr. Shanahan’s prayer for the team is a cross between a reflection and a cheer -- focusing on fun, joy and victory. Watch the video on Fr. Shanahan:

Creighton University’s men’s basketball team is the fifth seed heading into the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament, March 3-6 in St. Louis, Mo.

Creighton University is a Jesuit, Catholic university bridging health, law, business and the arts and sciences for a more just world.
