Five Creighton online education programs earn U.S. News rankings

Five Creighton University online programs have earned rankings in the 2016 U.S. News & World Report Best Online Programs, announced today in the magazine’s fifth annual edition on online higher education.

The rankings evaluated more than 1,000 distance education programs for bachelor’s and graduate degrees in business, education, nursing, engineering and computer technology. Creighton’s placement in five categories represents the most programs ranked since the rankings began in 2012, with two University programs earning rankings for the first time: the Online MBA Programs (44th) and the Online Graduate Nursing Program (64th).

Creighton’s other online program categories recognized are: No. 20 in Best Online Bachelor’s Programs; No. 13 in Best Online Graduate Business Programs (Excluding MBA); and No. 36 in Best Online Graduate Education Programs. It’s the second consecutive year Creighton’s online bachelor’s degree program has ranked in the Top 20.

“We are pleased that Creighton has once again been recognized for the faculty and staff efforts in expanding and continuing to contribute to the prestige of the University’s online programs,” said Tracy A. Chapman, Ph.D., associate dean for Adult and eLearning and executive director for the Center for Academic Innovation. “Hailing from around the nation, our students in online education are valued members of our academic community. We view our online programs as integral components in upward economic mobility and a pathway to new intellectual, social and missional pursuits.”

In the rankings, only degree-granting programs offering courses entirely online were considered. U.S. News & World Report used reputation, student engagement, faculty credentials and training, student services, technology and other factors to determine its rankings. The rankings also included peer review data based on schools’ evaluations of each other. Creighton submitted a completed questionnaire regarding its online degree programs in the summer of 2015 for consideration for the 2016 rankings.
