Creighton students raise $83,500 at Children’s Miracle Network Dance Marathon

Creighton University students busted a move and beat a goal at the at the school’s 4th Annual Children’s Miracle Network Dance Marathon at the Skutt Student Center ballroom on Saturday.

The one-day celebration of a year-long fundraising campaign was hosted by the Creighton fraternity and sorority community. Despite having already danced for 12 hours, the night ended with high energy as students learned they had not set a fundraising record with $83,578.18, surpassing their campaign goal of $75,000.

Children’s Hospital & Medical Center in Omaha will receive 100 percent of the proceeds from the event, which raised awareness of hospitalized children affected by pediatric illness. Local Children’s families shared inspiring stories at the start of each hour, which helped connect students to the people they were supporting. Hundreds of dancers, who pledged both individual and team fundraising goals, were encouraged to stay on their feet for the entire event.

“Dance Marathon provides students with a fun way to give back and serve others, which is a focus of both Greek organizations and at Creighton,” said Margaret Zimmer, assistant director of Creighton’s fraternity and sorority life. “This event continues to grow in popularity. We exceeded last year’s fundraising total by more than $15,000.”

Miracle Network Dance Marathon is a student-run, nationwide nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. The organization raises money to help save and improve the lives of as many children as possible.
