Fine and Performing Arts to stage holiday favorite, The Nutcracker

Nutcracker 2019Creighton University Dance Company’s production of the holiday favorite, The Nutcracker, will take place at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 4-6, and at 2 p.m. Dec. 7, in the Lied Education Center for Arts located at 24th and Cass streets.

Adapted from the 1816 story, The Nutcracker and the Mouse King, the ballet recounts the classic tale of a young girl’s journey, beginning at her parents’ Christmas party to a land of “sweets” where she is entertained by the Sugar Plum Fairy and other dance “confections.” She is accompanied by her beloved Uncle Drosselmeyer, and the Nutcracker “doll” (transformed into a “Prince”) that he has given her as a gift.

The production is staged by Creighton faculty Patrick Roddy, Patti Zukaitis, Liz Alford and Kelly Hanneman. The cast features dancers from the Creighton Dance Department, Alfred Ibsen Annie Barton, and Brittany Barham, as well as younger dancers from the metro community.

Tickets are available now at the Creighton box office in the Lied Center, online at, or by calling 402-280-1448. Admission prices are $5 for Creighton students, faculty and staff, $15 for senior citizens and $18 general admission.
