Creighton names interim dean for Graduate School

Kevin Fitzgerals, SJThe Rev. Kevin FitzGerald, SJ, PhD, PhD, the John A. Creighton University Professor, associate professor of medicine, and chair of the Department of Medical Humanities in the Creighton University School of Medicine, has been named interim dean of the Graduate School, effective July 1, 2021.

Gail Jensen, PhD, announced last year she would be stepping down as dean of the Graduate School and the College of Professional Studies on June 30, 2021, after 15 years of service in the position.

Jensen will continue to serve as vice provost for Learning and Assessment, which includes oversight of the University’s Higher Learning Commission accreditation. She also will continue in her role as interim director of the Center for Interprofessional Practice, Education and Research (CIPER) until a permanent director is named.

Fr. FitzGerald, renowned for his work in bioethics and medical genomics, joined Creighton in 2018 as the new John A. Creighton University Professor and as an associate professor in the School of Medicine, Department of Medical Education.

With the new Creighton University Health Sciences – Phoenix Campus in midtown Phoenix opening this fall, Creighton is poised to become the largest Catholic health professions educator in the country, and Fr. FitzGerald has served as a vital resource to integrate ethics across this spectrum.
