Responsible Conduct of Research

Research Personnel are expected to report any known or suspected noncompliant conduct related to research or sponsored program activities conducted and/or approved through Creighton University. You may report issues to our anonymous hotline by phone at 855-256-0478 or from our website. Research Personnel may also address their research compliance-related questions or concerns to the Director of Research Compliance at 402-280-2511.

Creighton University, in its effort to provide a research environment with the highest standards of professionalism and ethical responsibilities, promotes responsible conduct of research. All faculty, staff, and students involved in research at Creighton University are expected to conduct their research with honesty, accuracy, efficiency, and objectivity. In addition, the federal government requires anyone receiving funding from various sponsoring agencies to complete responsible and ethical conduct of research training.

Creighton University has established training in Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) for those involved in research. RCR training includes the following elements:

  • Research Misconduct
  • Data Acquisition, Management, Sharing, and Ownership
  • Mentor/Trainee Responsibilities
  • Responsible Authorship and Publication Practices
  • Peer Review
  • Collaborative Relationships
  • Conflict of Interest and Commitments

Initial RCR training is provided by CITI. The CITI RCR courses provide a thorough introduction to responsible conduct of research. Courses are available in Biomedical Responsible Conduct of Research, Social/Behavioral Responsible Conduct of Research, Physical Science Responsible Conduct of Research, Humanities Responsible Conduct of Research, and Administrators Responsible Conduct of Research. YOU ARE TO ONLY TAKE ONE (1) RCR COURSE. PLEASE CHOOSE THE COURSE THAT BEST REFLECTS YOUR AREA OF RESEARCH. DO NOT COMPLETE MORE THAN ONE COURSE.

There will be annual opportunities for continuing education in the responsible and ethical conduct in research. Recertification will be required every four (4) years.
