Am I Eligible?

Creighton must nominate you for consideration for this scholarship and these are the eligibility requirements that will be used:

Student nominee must be a current Junior, a U.S. citizen and be in the upper quarter of their class in academics. Additionally, the student must be willing to:

  • Work in government, education, the nonprofit sector, or the public interest/advocacy sector to improve these conditions.
  • Commit to work in public service for three of the first seven years after I complete a Foundation-funded graduate degree.
  • Considering a master's degree, a doctorate, or a professional degree such as a law degree or a Master of Public Administration, Master of Public Health, Master of Social Work, Master of Education, Master of Public Policy, or Master of International Affairs.

What Will I Receive?

The Harry S. Truman Scholarship Foundation awards $30,000 merit-based scholarships to college students who wish to attend graduate school in preparation for careers in government or elsewhere in public service.

How Do I Apply?

All Candidates for the Truman must be nominated by their undergraduate institution.  If you are interested in this opportunity you need to contact Creighton’s faculty representative and begin the process.  The Truman Application consists of an Institutional Nomination form and letter.  The nominee provides three additional letters of recommendation, a recent transcript, a 15 question application and a policy proposal.

Additional Information:

The Foundation also provides assistance with career counseling, internship placement, graduate school admissions, and professional development.  Scholars are invited to participate in a number of programs:  Truman Scholar Leadership Week, The Summer Institute, The Truman Fellows Program, and the Public Service Law Conference.
