If you have a burning desire to study abroad in a country outside Western Europe, Canada, Australia, or New Zealand and are a U.S. citizen, matriculated as a freshman, sophomore, junior, or senior, you are eligible to apply.
NSEP Boren scholarships are merit based. Award amounts are based on the study abroad costs and financial aid information provided by the applicant. The maximum award is $8,000 for a summer, $10,000 for a semester, or $20,000 for a full academic year.
All interested students from Creighton must first visit the program website. After thoroughly reading all information, they must consult with the NSEP representative on our campus. All candidates from Creighton must have their applications reviewed and approved by Creighton prior to the national deadline.
Generally in early January. Please check website and consult with Dr. Elliot-Meisel for details.
NSEP gives preference to students who will study in particular countries; who will study particular languages; who will study particular fields; who will study abroad for a full academic year; and who will make a commitment to a career in federal service.
Each year, NSEP publishes a list of geographic areas, languages, and fields of study identified as critical to U.S. national security. The lists are developed by NSEP based on a survey of agencies and offices throughout the federal sector. This year's list includes 87 countries and 48 languages. NSEP is also eager to receive applications from students in subfields that are particularly relevant to U.S. national security such as democracy and governance and counter-proliferation studies.
