Transportation

Creighton University is located slightly north of the heart of the older urban center of Omaha (the Old Market). We live in a large, sprawling Midwestern urban city and because of this, we have access to a variety of transportation options. Using sustainable modes of transportation not only reduces gasoline consumption and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, but activities such as walking and bike riding help build a sense of community and encourages healthy lifestyles.

The Creighton University Active Commuting and Transportation Guide will help you find sustainable strategies for walking, riding your bike, taking the shuttle and city bus, carpooling and driving alone, parking, and more! This guide was shaped by 2018 active commuting survey results.

Walking

Omaha is a great city for walking. At 12 blocks per mile, you can walk an Omaha block in a New York minute!

Bicycles

Creighton has multiple bike racks for you to safely lock up your bike. Check out our Campus Bike Rack Map for locations. We have also partnered with the Community Bike Project Omaha (CBPO) to put on "Dust Off Your Bike Events" on campus. We will help you get your bike in shape so you can ride to and from campus and throughout Omaha. In addition to those events, you can visit CBPO Wednesday through Sunday during their Open Shop hours:

  • Wednesday: 2 - 5 p.m.
  • Thursday: 2 - 5 p.m.
  • Friday: 2 - 6 p.m.
  • Saturday: noon - 6 p.m.
  • Sunday: 2 - 6 p.m.

The Community Bike Project Omaha is in nearby Gifford Park, less than a mile away from campus, which makes for an easy walk or ride!

Shuttle

Creighton's shuttle system transports students, faculty and staff around campus and to the nearby neighborhoods.

Bus

Metro Transit Omaha can take you all over Omaha plus Council Bluffs, IA! Check out their website or maps and a “Plan Your Trip” feature.

When possible, set up a carpooling schedule with your friends and neighbors. There is also a formal network for carpooling in Omaha: MetrO! Rideshare is a free, quick and secure service that connects commuters throughout the Metropolitan Omaha Region who are interested in carpooling. Simply create a new account and profile and MetrO! Rideshare will automatically search for carpool matches according to your commuting preferences.

In May 2015, the University installed two electric vehicle (EV) charging stations. You can charge your EV in the parking garages at the Harper Center and McGloin Hall. See campus parking map on the main Maps page.

Curricular and business-related travel contribute greatly to Creighton’s total greenhouse gas emissions. In an effort to recognize the impact that air travel contributes to climate change and make efforts to reduce our carbon footprint, the University has established a three-year pilot Air Travel Mitigation Program using funds donated voluntarily by Creighton University travelers.
