TRIO Programs - Student Support Programs

Program Eligibility

Creighton’s Student Support Services serves 160 participants each year. To be eligible to participate in TRiO SSS programs, students must be:

  • US Citizens (eligible to receive federal financial aid)
  • Enrolled as fulltime student at Creighton
  • Exhibit academic need

Current CU students applying for SSS must also have a minimum of a 2.5 cumulative GPA.

Additionally, students must demonstrate academic need for program services and meet one or more of the following criteria. Priority preference is given to those students who meet two of the three criteria.

  • First-generation college student
  • Low-income
  • Have a verified disability

Participation Requirements

Once a student is admitted into the program, they must be active participants by completing 100% of their participation requirements. When students join SSS, they are committing to complete each participation requirement every semester, and every year, until their departure (graduation or within six-years, whichever comes first.).

SSS participants are required to complete four-semester and three-annual, individualized sessions with SSS staff, totaling eleven participation requirements a year. These requirements allow SSS to deliver academic and financial programming that lead to our students’ success at Creighton.

Application Timeline

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis, but are primarily reviewed once a year, during the spring, for acceptance into the upcoming academic year.

March 1: Applications are due
March 1–31: Applications are reviewed
April 1–30: Interviews are conducted
May 3–15: Acceptance Letters are issued
Spring Review Dates: March–April

Note: If students withdraw their application or are found to be ineligible, spots may become available. If this happens, SSS will open a second review cycle in July.

Additionally, SSS sometimes has spots open in the end of the fall semester due to early graduations! When this happens, SSS has the ability to accept students for the spring semester. Spring admits can follow the timeline below:

November 30: Applications are due
December 1–15: Interviews are conducted over the phone
December 16–31: Acceptance Letters are issued
January 12: 1:00 p.m.–5:00 p.m. Onboarding Orientation

When reviewing applications, SSS is required to obtain specific verification forms from Financial Aid and Enrollment Services. To expedite this process, applying students should:

  1. Complete your FAFSA
  2. Submit the following information to Bert Maastricht in Enrollment Services.
    • Submit the first two pages of their most recent guardian/parents? tax return (verifying taxable income)
    • Verification of your household size (family size or number of dependents in household)
