About TRiO Talent Search

What is Talent Search?

Talent Search is a federally funded TRiO program grant funded by the United States Department of Education. The purpose of the program is to help low-income and potential first-generation college students in middle school and high school to reach their educational goals of graduating high school and pursuing post-secondary programs of study.

Who Can Participate?

  • Participants must have and maintain a GPA of 2.5 or higher

  • Participants must be enrolled in a target schools and be in the 6th-12th grades

  • Participants will be potentially the first in their families to graduate from post-secondary education and/or are considered low-income by federal guidelines

  • Participants must be citizens or permanent residents of the United States

  • Participants must express a desire to pursue and attain post secondary education

Target Schools

  • High Schools:
    • Benson, Bryan, Buena Vista, Bryan, Central, North, Northwest, South and Westview
  • Middle Schools
    • Beveridge, Bryan Middle, Buffett, Davis, Hale, King Science, Lewis and Clark, Marrs, McMillan, Monroe, Morton, and Norris

Student Requirements:

  • Students show commitment to school by keeping a 2.5 grade point average or above.

  • Students meet with their TRIO Coordinator at school when requested.

  • Students must participate in at least two Talent Search activities a year and are encouraged to participate in more.

  • Students must adhere to the Code of Conduct
