About the School of Law

Students in the School of Law come from many places

  • Creighton law students come from 29 states and 146 undergraduate schools
  • 41% of our students are women
  • And 22% are minorities

And they find exceptional opportunities at Creighton

  • Students can earn a JD degree in two, three or four years
  • A constitutional law seminar offered every other year allows face-to-face discussion with a U.S. Supreme Court justice
  • Earn 2 degrees in 3 years — a JD plus a Master of Science degree in Negotiation and Dispute  Resolution from the Graduate School’s Department of Interdisciplinary Studies
  • Our Government Organization and Leadership (GOAL) program also offers 2 degrees in 3 years, including a fall-semester externship in a government agency in Washington, D.C.
  • Our joint JD/MBA with the Heider College of Business is another popular option that can be completed in 3 years
  • Our summer program, “From Nuremberg to the Hague,” lets law students study international criminal law, war crimes and the Holocaust in Germany and The Netherlands
  • Each January, our immersion trip to the Dominican Republic lets our students reflect on life, law and poverty in a less-developed nation — a life-changing experience

When they graduate, they are in demand

  • 86.6% of 2016 graduates were employed, in graduate school or not seeking a job 9 months after graduation
  • Students accepted offers of employment in 19 states
  • 91% of the jobs held by our 2016 graduates required or strongly preferred a JD degree

The law school is steeped in Jesuit values

  • Creighton helps law students practice public-interest law. Each summer, the law school offers grants to 1L and 2L students who accept otherwise unpaid externships with government and nonprofit law offices
  • The Abrahams Legal Clinic gives free legal services to low-income persons, especially victims of domestic violence, and hands-on experience to our law students
  • The new Immigration and Refugee Clinic will assist clients in cooperation with the nonprofit legal organization Justice for Our Neighbors

And our more than 7,000 alumni live out Creighton’s mission of excellence
Just a few School of Law alumni who have made a difference include:

  • Michael Johanns, JD’74, U.S. Senator, U.S. Secretary of Agriculture, 2-time Governor of Nebraska
  • Many federal district judges: Joseph Bataillon, JD’74; Donald O’Brien, JD’48; Robert Pratt, JD’72; and Lyle Strom, JD’53
  • Many Nebraska Supreme Court Justices: Michael McCormack, JD’63; William Connolly, JD’63; and C. Thomas White, JD’52
  • Recent U.S. Attorneys: Laura Duffy, JD’93; Michael McKay, JD’76; and John McKay, JD’82
