Barbara Reardon Heaney Student Research Scholar Recipients for the Fall of 2013

Adam Lomas

Before coming to Creighton, I had the great privilege of being able to attend Regis Jesuit High School in Colorado, where my love of theology and Jesuit education were first ignited. Then, following in the footsteps of my two older brothers who both attended Creighton for their undergrad and graduate studies, I came to Omaha from Littleton, CO in 2010.  While at Creighton, I have chosen to double major in Theology and Philosophy and have been involved with the Freshman Leadership Program, the Cortina Community, and the Encuentro Dominicano semester long study abroad program.

Kaitlin Mullen

Katie Mullen is a junior, Exercise Science, Pre-Physical Therapy student. Katie plans on attending physical therapy school after graduation from Creighton. Throughout her life, Katie has enjoyed playing sports, from soccer to pole vaulting, which have led to a number of injuries. Through these injuries, Katie was introduced to the field of physical therapy, which is where she found her passion for helping others heal. While her passion for healing was discovered earlier in life, Katie really discovered her love of faith exploration at Creighton University. Although she was born and raised Catholic, Katie's experiences in her theology courses at Creighton are what truly inspired her to  delve deeper into what it truly means to be Catholic. The combination of Katie's love for healing and theological research is what inspired her to write about the impact of Vatican II's Sacrosanctum Conciium on Anointing of the Sick, and the importance of the church's active participation in caring for the world.
