How to Engage with Faculty Teaching in Online Programs

Hi! I'm Jim Martin, your dutiful blogger on online teaching. As an introduction, I've been teaching online at the undergraduate and graduate level for the last eight years. This month, I'm going to write about involving and engaging faculty members. In a traditional department, faculty members often seek each other, often weekly, or, at worst, at departmental meetings. However, in online programs, faculty are often scattered around the country, or even around the world. This can create a sense of isolation for adjuncts or remotely deployed full-time faculty members and can create difficulties in communicating changes to policies, procedures, or important information about students. This month’s blog discusses strategies that you might use to reach out and engage with online faculty members—as well as how to develop them.
