(Required of all History Majors.)
If Voltaire disdained history as "but a pack of tricks that we play on the dead," how could W. H. McNeil believe that "better hindsight deepens insight and makes for less imperfect foresight"? Required of all History majors, this course will seek to answer such questions by introducing students to the rich study of history, or historiography. Emphasizing the skill of reading critically, the course will examine the significant contributions of major figures in the field, consider contemporary controversies facing modern historians, and compare various interpretations of historical issues within the particular specialization of the instructor.
This is a Certified Writing Course.
