(Required of all History Majors.)
This semester, we will explore the origins and development of popular history in the United States and its relationship to professional history. We will seek to answer such questions as: Why have certain historical events and individuals become so important to the people of this nation? How do popular perceptions of those events and people match the historical record? What do those popular perceptions reveal about us as a people?
This class emphasizes oral presentation. Therefore, in addition to common readings, classroom lectures and discussions, and a research paper, students will make oral presentations in different forms.
This is a Certified Writing Course.
