Melissa Woodley, PhD, CFA

Associate Professor

Economics and Finance

Dr. Woodley is an Associate Professor of Finance. She has taught a variety of courses at the undergraduate and master's levels, including corporate finance, investments, fixed income, and derivatives. Dr. Woodley also leads the Portfolio Practicum course, a two-course sequence that provides students with hands-on experience managing a $15 million large-cap equity portfolio on behalf of Creighton's endowment, as well as a travel course that provides students with the opportunity to gain an on-site understanding of different areas of finance through a week-long program in New York City.

Dr. Woodley's research interests include bond market liquidity and the impact of information revelation on bond markets. Her work has been published in numerous finance journals, including The Financial Review, Journal of Fixed Income, Journal of Applied Finance, and Journal of Accounting and Finance. She is a past president of the Southern Finance Association and currently serves as Editor of the Journal of Financial Research and the Journal of Undergraduate Research in Finance.

Dr. Woodley earned her Ph.D. in Finance from the University of Alabama in 2007, an M.A. in Finance with a concentration in financial risk management from the University of Alabama in 2002, and a B.S. in Finance from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 1999. She has been a CFA charterholder since 2012. Prior to joining Creighton's faculty in 2012, Dr. Woodley held faculty appointments at Samford University and the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Before her academic career, Dr. Woodley was an investment analyst and portfolio manager for a major regional bank.
