Our Basic Life Support (BLS) course follows the American Heart Association’s nationally recognized program. Through this course, you will gain muscle memory as well as critical thinking and problem solving skills so you are ready to respond to life-threatening emergencies. You will learn how to administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), use an automated external defibrillator (AED) and safely and swiftly assist a choking victim.

Cost

The course fee is $80. This does not include the cost of the AHA manual. You must buy the manual prior to the start of the course. You may purchase directly from AHA or from the vendor of your choice.

Whether you’re looking to earn initial BLS certification or to renew your certification, register now for upcoming courses. 
AHA no longer distinguishes between Renewal and Initial for BLS. Any participant needing BLS certification may attend any course listed. Course fee is $80.

The AHA Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Initial course offered through Creighton follows the most-up-to-date AHA guidelines for CPR and Emergency Cardiovascular Care. The course stresses continuous, high-quality CPR and builds on the lifesaving skills you’ve learned in BLS. This course is for those who haven’t taken an ACLS course in the past, who are uncomfortable with ACLS content and skills or who have let their ACLS provider card expire.

You must complete a pre-course assessment and share your score with the instructor on the first day of class. If you have a current ACLS card that you’re looking to renew, please register for Creighton’s ACLS Renewal course.

The AHA Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Renewal course offered through Creighton is for healthcare professionals. You must complete a pre-course assessment and share your score with the instructor on the first day of class. If you have not taken an ACLS course or are uncomfortable with the content or do not have a current ACLS card, please register for the ACLS Initial course.

As a pediatric healthcare professional, you’ll gain the knowledge and skills you need to efficiently and effectively manage critically ill infants and children. This course is for those who have not attended a PALS course, are uncomfortable with PALS content and skills or who have let their PALS card expire. If you have a current PALS card that you want to renew, please register for Creighton’s PALS Renewal course.

The AHA’s HeartCode® BLS course offered through Creighton is for healthcare professionals and others who need to know how to perform CPR and other basic cardiovascular life support skills in a wide range of in-facility and pre-hospital settings. You’ll earn up to 1.75 hour(s) of CME/CE/CEH credits.

Up-to-Date Information

This course replaces the BLS for Healthcare Providers Online Part 1 (#90-1403), HeartCode BLS Part 1 (#90-1404), and BLS for Prehospital Providers Online (#90-1433) 2010 Guidelines courses.

Latest Technology

You’ll use eSimulation technology to assess and treat patients in virtual healthcare settings. You’ll gain BLS knowledge and skills by using a variety of eLearning assets, such as dramatizations, eSimulations, animations, self-directed learning and interactive activities. This method of learning provides training consistency, adaptability to different learning styles and flexibility for you and your employer’s time. Work at your own pace while applying your knowledge to real-time decision-making and skills development. Blended training also supports your need for hands-on learning of psychomotor skills.

In-Person Skills Session

After completing the eLearning component, you will attend a structured, instructor-led course at Creighton that focuses on meaningful skills practice, debriefing, team scenarios, discussions of local protocols and skills testing.

Outcomes

After you successfully complete both the eLearning and hands-on session of the HeartCode BLS course, you should be able to:

  • Describe the importance of high-quality CPR and its impact on survival
  • Describe all of the steps of the Chain of Survival and apply the BLS concepts of the Chain of Survival
  • Recognize the signs of someone needing CPR
  • Perform high-quality CPR for adults, children and infants
  • Describe the importance of early use of an AED and demonstrate its use
  • Provide effective ventilations by using a barrier device
  • Describe the importance of team dynamics in multirescuer resuscitation and perform as an effective team member during multirescuer CPR
  • Describe the technique for relief of foreign-body airway obstruction (choking) for adults and infants

Important notice regarding COVID-19

Skills tests have been postponed until April 30th

The AHA’s HeartCode® ACLS course offered through Creighton is a self-directed, comprehensive eLearning program. You’ll use eSimulation technology to assess and treat patients in virtual healthcare settings. You will be presented a team dynamics lesson and 10 in-hospital patient cases, including a BLS case and 2 megacode cases. After successfully completing the patient cases, you must pass the written exam with a score of 84 percent. You are then able to attend the hands-on session required for full course completion.

HeartCode is an official, self-directed, comprehensive eLearning program from the American Heart Association. Part 1, the cognitive portion of HeartCode, uses eSimulation technology to present realistic patient scenarios. In Parts 2 and 3, the student will demonstrate proficiency in providing skills, tested with AHA instructors at EMS Education offices.

Register Now

Heartsaver courses are designed for anyone with little or no medical training who needs a course completion card for job, regulatory (for example, OSHA), or other requirements. These courses can also be taken by anyone who wants to be prepared for an emergency in any setting. For many Heartsaver courses, students receive a course completion card that is valid for 2 years. This course will teach you to recognize cardiac arrest, get emergency care on the way quickly, and help a person until more advanced care arrives to take over.
