We can provide guidance through the benefit and admissions process and identify different ways to earn credit at Creighton. Doing so is aligned with our 100+ year commitment to veterans.

Montgomery GI Bill® (Chapter 30)
How to Use Your Montgomery GI Bill® – Active Duty at Creighton
The Montgomery GI Bill® Active Duty (MGIB-AD) program, also known as Chapter 30, offers education benefits to those who have served at least two years of active duty in the United States Armed Forces. If you’re eligible, the Office of Military and Veterans Affairs will make it as smooth as possible for you to use your MGIB-AD benefits at Creighton University.

Applying for Benefits
Before you can receive your benefits for use at Creighton, you must:
- Submit your application for admission and be accepted at Creighton
- Apply for VA educational benefits
- Provide your Certificate of Eligibility (approval of benefits statement from the VA) and a Creighton Information Form to the Office of Military and Veterans Affairs
- Enroll and register for classes at Creighton University
Certification Process
After the Office of Military and Veterans Affairs has received your Certificate of Eligibility and Information Form and you’ve registered for classes, we will certify your enrollment with the VA. At the end of each month, you must verify your enrollment with the VA via the WAVE system. Your enrollment verification as well as Creighton’s certification triggers the VA to begin processing your applicable benefits. Your monthly benefit is paid directly to you, not to the university.
As long as you remain continuously enrolled for subsequent semesters, we will certify your enrollment with the VA. This will be automatic unless you inform us that you do not wish to be certified for a particular course, term and/or semester.
Veteran Readiness and Employment (VR&E Chapter 31)
How to Use Your VR&E Benefits at Creighton
If you’re a service-disabled veteran, you may qualify for education benefits through the Veteran Readiness and Employment (VR&E Chapter 31), which is designed to help veterans prepare for and excel in a career. A Veteran Readiness and Employment Counselor with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs will work to develop a plan for eligible participants, and that plan can include education and training. Creighton’s Office of Military and Veterans Affairs will make it as smooth as possible for you to use your VR&E benefits at Creighton University.
Applying for Benefits
Before you can receive your benefits for use at Creighton, you must:
- Submit your application for admission and be accepted to Creighton
- Meet with a VR&E counselor and apply for VA education benefits
- Provide your VA Form 22-1905 from your Voc Rehab counselor and a Creighton Information Form to the Office of Military and Veterans Affairs
- Enroll and register for classes at Creighton University
Certification Process
After the Office of Military and Veterans Affairs has received your VA Form 22-1905 and Information Form and you’ve registered for classes, we will certify your enrollment with the VA. This certification triggers the VA to begin processing your benefits. Your applicable tuition and fees and books and supplies approved by your VR&E counselor on your VA Form 22-1905 will be paid directly to Creighton University on your behalf.
As long as you remain continuously enrolled for subsequent semesters and the Office of Military and Veterans Affairs receives a VA Form 22-1905, we will certify your enrollment with the VA. This will be automatic unless you inform us that you do not wish to be certified for a particular course, term, and/or semester.
Eligibility: Active Duty Service Members
Active Duty Service Members are eligible if they:
- Expect to receive an honorable discharge upon separation from active duty
- Obtain a memorandum rating of 20% or more from the VA
- Apply for Veteran Readiness and Employment (VR&E) services
Eligibility: Veterans
Veterans are eligible if they:
- Have received, or will receive, a discharge that is other than dishonorable
- Have a service-connected disability rating of at least 10%, or a memorandum rating of 20% or more from the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA)
- Apply for Veteran Readiness and Employment (VR&E) services
Basic Period of Eligibility
The basic period of eligibility in which VR&E services may be used is 12 years from the later of the following:
- Date of separation from active military service, or
- Date the veteran was first notified by VA of a service-connected disability rating.
The basic period of eligibility may be extended if a VR&E Counselor (VRC) determines that a Veteran has a Serious Employment Handicap.
Survivors’ & Dependents’ Assistance (Chapter 35)
How to Use Your DEA Survivors’ and Benefits Assistance at Creighton
The Survivors’ and Dependents’ Educational Assistance (DEA) program, also known as Chapter 35, offers education benefits to dependents of veterans who were disabled or died while on active duty or as a result of a service-related condition. The Office of Military and Veterans Affairs will make it as smooth as possible for you to use your DEA benefits to pursue an education at Creighton University.

Before you can receive your benefits for use at Creighton, you must:
- Submit your application for admission and be accepted at Creighton
- Apply for VA educational benefits
- Provide your Certificate of Eligibility (approval of benefits statement from the VA) and a Creighton Information Form to the Office of Military and Veterans Affairs
- Enroll and register for classes at Creighton University

The Montgomery GI Bill® Selected Reserve (MGIB-SR) program, also known as Chapter 1606, offers education benefits to eligible members of the Air Force, Army, Coast Guard or Navy Reserves, as well as the Air or Army National Guards. The Office of Military and Veterans Affairs will make it as smooth as possible for you to use your MGIB-SR benefits at Creighton University.

- Submit your application for admission and be accepted at Creighton
- Apply for VA educational benefits
