1990? Aesop’s Fables Portable Audio Player. “Jaxon Presents the Classic Stories.” Preloaded MP3 player. My Seminar Player. Unknown source.
This little player, operated by a single AAA battery, plays 135 Aesop’s stories through earbuds connected with the player. It actually (still) works! I write that sentence because of a surprise event. Whenever we acquired this player, we left it in its clear plastic container. I opened it to two surprises. First, there was a battery inside. Had it begun to ooze chemicals over the years of non-use? Apparently not! But the rubber-plastic exterior of the player soon developed a coat of stick substance that was alarming. The player is now in a baggie with a new battery. I keep it in the collection mostly as an example of how far out fables can reach!
