Glass-in-Wood Magic Lantern Slides

1870?  3 Magic Lantern Slides: 3” Glass Mounted in Wooden Frames 6.5” x 3.75”.  Labeled as “Aesop’s Fables.”  Individual titles.

Beautiful color!  I am not aware of a standard fable artist whom this artist was following. The choice of fables is surprising, since these are lesser-known fables.

"The Uninvited Guest," the dog invited into the kitchen by another dog and thrown out by the cook.

"The Sensible Ass," urged to flee from men the owner feared.  "My enemy is the man who puts loads on my back."

"The Blackamoor," a black slave whom his owner tried to scrub white.  The poor fellow caught pneumonia!

1870? Glass magic lantern colored slide of Gustave Doré's TMCM.  7" x 3 7/8".  Labeled on the lower rim "Class 29. Series 11. Fables of La Fontaine. No. 2. The City Rat and the Country Rat. B. 1 F. 9."  $19.99 from phillips_bradley on Ebay, Dec., '19.

The coloring of the image here is surprisingly strong.  The image is about 3" in diameter.
