1950?  French history chart, including Jean de La Fontaine.  N. 31:939 – Planche n. 85 – Histoire.  Editions Hemma.  Paris: Chaix.  $16.99 from Eric Dupont, Belgium, August, ’03.

Sixteen scenes from French history, with identifying captions on the verso.  The scenes range from the reign of Louis XIV to 1792.  “Au temps de Louis XIV, Jean de la Fontaine ecrit des fables immortelles.”  La Fontaine is accompanied by fox, crow, and stork.

1982  “The World of Fables: Reading Comprehension: Aesop’s most famous tales, with morals that challenge.”  16 fables, each 8.5” x 11” with two or three laminated pages, in a box.  $10.55 from Pat Balert, through Ebay, August, ’04.

As the box claims, each page has a text, a colorful illustration, reading comprehension tasks, and open-ended questions.  Several of the fables have only two pages: WSC; FK; LM; CP; “The Lark and Her Young.”  These may be helpful for our Education Department’s outreach to grade-school children.

2002  “The Bear and the Two Travelers.”  Homeschool Learning Network Literature Study Guide.  From Judy FInkell, Edgewater, FL, June, ’12.

I include this set of eight pages as a good example of an area I do not know well, namely the early stages of online materials for homeschooling.  I found such a plethora of guides online that I could not track down whether this series still exists.

2010 "Fabulous Fables."  Set of 8 classroom games in a folder and bag.  Laminated materials for each game.  DVD with patterns for printing the materials in each game.  Student creative work:  Lisa Bates.

Here is one of those class creative works that goes far beyond the norm.  I can see exhibited here some fine learning in a class in early grades learning.  Each of the eight activities looks like genuine fun.  My favorites include (1) the six statements from GA to on 1¾" x 8" cards to arrange in good order; (2) the 12 small word/picture cards, 2" x 3½", to match in pairs for 6 different fables (samples pictured below); and "Fox's Plurals" with two choices for each of nine difficult plural nouns.  What fun!

2024   Laminated Cards: “Guidelines for Creating a Fable Play.”  11.5” x 9”.  Two copies.  Made by Thomas Haggstrom for use in workshops with children.

The first side answers “What is a fable?” and gives 11 characters and their characteristics.  The verso gives lessons to be learned from fables and an example for each lesson.

Short plot summaries of ten well-known fables.
